Lost for words.
I need a drink.
Lost for words too. What is going on. Too early to be doom & gloom. But, will probably get slated for thisā¦but going down means no VAR, no tourist fans, better chance of away tickets. But, as I say too early. KTF.
Followed the mighty wanderers for over fifty years but Iāve for some reason no excitement for this season whatsoever even befor the first game
The conspiracy theorist in me says are nightmare start was due to the powers to be teaching us a lesson putting us on the back foot befor we start as we had the audacity to protest var
Just pressed the wrong button in mid stream (silly old fart)
We get every prem game live over here although at ridiculous oāclock and I used to watch at least 3
This year canāt be arsed hopefully we will turn the corner sooner rather than later but I can see us getting a few spankings on the way
I was a relative new comer to the blog which I miss but the new format has still got some good English humour that I miss
Roll on the less corrupt A league
This is quite simple. We canāt keep the ball out of our own net. And we canāt put the ball in to the opponents net. Flipping Eck. I have been going to the Wolves since the late 70ās. You know when the alarm bells ring. We are doomed. Only a manager who can organise us and grind out a few results can save us. Similar to what Loppy did in early 2023. Sadly GON is in for another chastening experience come 19.30 next Saturday. Then itās Brentford away. Then City at home. Can we get 2 points from 8 games by then ?
It was quite clear post Chelsea we were going to struggle defensively. I think Andre has come in so GON has tried to persevere, but itās not working; we simply cannot keep a clean sheet or even only concede 1. We have to grind out a few results - this should have been the mentality right at the start. Heās got it wrong and now is the time to backtrack.
If you keep doing the same thing (four at the back) each time and the same thing happens , then itās not rocket science to see the problem.
We have two good wing backs but Garyās system requires fullbacks whose strength is to defend.
We should be able to turn to a back three (five) when the occasion demands as for the second half yesterday Villa were always going to attack our system more effectively following our good play, and we do not have the players to fit the new system adequately yet, following our transfer misses.
Lord help us without Merson. Praying we can do something before our confidence is quashed. We do look good for long periods but need to know when to close that back door. I feel sorry for the lads who aretrying their hardest. Gary, come on, itās not working properly; we need a fallback plan ābāā¦
Sorry, Yerson (Mosquera); been watching too much āStrictlyā.
I tend to agree about the full backs Debenham. I know Iām a bit long in the tooth and that the game has changed immeasurably since the 1950s, but the success the club had back then was based on having a team that virtually picked itself because of their expertise in their position - if they were fit they always played - and they played in the position they were best at. Over a season a very small number of players turned out for the first team - no subs in those days of course. In 1953-4 for example in the 42 league matches only 22 players were used in total - and of these only 13 played more than 10 times and 6 players only made 15 appearances between them. I believe there was a lot to be said for not having subs - the starting eleven knew that if the game was going to be won, theyād be the ones making it happen. While Iāve been emcouraged to some extent by the variety of players involved in the attacks this season, some of them arenāt as good as a good forward. Ait Nouri is nearly there, but not quite and is lacking defensively, Somedo is quite often involved, but in some ways is as frustration as Adama Traore used to be in terms of final product.
Having said all that, I have to admit that we havenāt exactly had the run of the ball. Two of Villaās goals came after clashes between players when the ball could have gone anywhere but happened to fall kindly for Villa. Previous games have been similar. The MB/AT commentary I listened to asked several times why our players had been carded while virtually identical fouls by Villa didnāt have the same treatment. etc. etc. In the end we lost, but we always knew it was a very hard start to the season so in Gary we [have to] trust. There are enough good signs to suggest that improvements will come. Stll nervous about our full backs though

Five games weāve played this season. Four defeats. Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle, Villa. Which of these games, taken on their own, were we expected to win beforehand? None of them. Zilch.
So the fact weāve lost them is, in my eyes, no reason to condemn the manager. No reason for the levels of doom and despondency that currently assaults my own boundless optimism every time I check in with my fellow Wolves fans.
Forest are, at the time of writing, undefeated in the league and top half of the table. They deservedly won at Anfield last week. Nuno working his magic once again. We earned a draw on their patch the previous week.
Weāve got the Scoucers, Brentford away and the cheating Mancs in the next three. We could lose them all and youāll find not an ounce of despondency here.
Telling me the fixture list is drawn at random?
My arse it is. Come on me babbies. Donāt let the bastards (at the Premier League) grind you down.
Agreed Wolfstroker - although we classicists used to put it as āNoli illigitimi carborundum esseā
Top comment wolfie, that does put things in perspective.
regarding the fixture list ā¦wellā¦ that will teach us to take on the powers that be about VAR .
I still say the game is rigged , how the hell can wolves, two seasons on the trot have the most difficult start of any team and villa have the easiest.
As for the game villa were always going to score at some point so to go in at half time one up was a blessing that gary should have grasped and he should have put five at the back .
I said in the pub we would lose 3-1 because i knew gary would stick with a four and emery would work the flanks and get round us which he did .
No great shakes lets get past the next couple of weeks beat brentford get beaten by the scousers and the cheaters then maybe settle down and get some points on the board .
I see Nuno is playing 3 centre halves same old same old and its working ā¦ best of luck to him.
I agree with the points made by Jazz and Stroker and with a modicum of luck and, or justice we would be in a far better Position. However, i still feel we could have gained one or even two victories if we had reverted to our old system which allows for fullback cover by the extra centre back when under pressure . Without Yerson, i think we will get punished more by any team in the league.with the space we allow as our hard working players tire. We have been shown these deficiences by very good teams, but the league, in my opinion, is full of improved squads this season. I judge how we will end up after ten games in any season so i am not panicking yet or seeking the dismissal of GON.
He knew we needed our sold players replaced by some of those we chased and failed to land; hemade it very clear for his changes to be effective he needed at least a top class cb and a replacement for Neto. Iām hoping Forbs, when up to speed is a revelation.
Perhaps the Brentford game will show a truer picture of where we are. We know we are capable of great play going forward. Strangely, i want us to win every and any game whoever we are playing. When you see what the āfavouredā teams spend without a whisper of a comeback it makes my blood boil that we have to count the pennies or be docked points.
I agree with how GON wants to play but you fix your tactics to suit the squad you have; you donāt push your players into a system whilst lacking the type of player to meet its criteria. We have now lost our most dominant defender and have to adapt for this loss. Itās not GONs fault we did not back what he needed and, again, an injury has left us very short in my opinion. I fully understand fanās trepidation but hope this soon becomes overcome with a win or two.
Agree with much of that DW, especially the bit about the loss of young Mosquera. The injury looked particularly bad and I will personally be delighted if we get to see him again this season.
No way am I advocating that we lose GON but is anyone else baffled as to why we dispensed with so many of our fullbacks for the season ?
Maybe not so much Lembikisa and KHJ now that we have Pedro Lima, but letting Hugo Bueno go has puzzled me given that he is probably better for a back four and RAN better for a back five.
Canāt disagree with that Hertford. Although I understand that we canāt sign up Joel Matip on a free because our squad is already full, numbers wise. So if Hugo stayed, someone else would have to drop out.
Ah right, that makes sense Wolf.
In which case Toti & MD must be the back-up plan at left back. Gotcha.
And for anyone who doesnt believe me about the fixture list read the report in the athletic !!! its an eye opener.
Not quite on this topic, but I found this video fascinating. Itās the 1921 cup final when we lost to Spurs at Stamford Bridge. Check out the condition of the waterlogged pitch. Iāve some sympathy with the goalies standing in a small lake - it used to be like that when I played in the local leagues on some appalling pitches. You can also see how uneven the pitch is from the shots along the goal line.
Agree Spikey. Villa first 6 games against bottom 7 teams. We donāt play one until mid November. Itās a joke.
